Holy Martyr Tsar Nicholas II is depicted holding a scroll upon which is written in Cyrillic: "For a righteous and blameless man became a subject for mockery, for it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his house should be laid to waste by the lawless." This passage is from the Book of Job. The Martyr Tsar wears a majestic red robe and Monomakh's Cap, the fur crown of the Romanov Dynasty. A legend has it that the cap had been presented by the Byzantine emperor Constantine IX Monomachus to his grandson Vladimir Monomakh, the founder of the city of Vladimir. Icon painted on wood in Moscow in the mid-1990s. Velvet backing. 4"x 5" 1 only.
