Viatka Purple Maidens. With the uncommon purple color head (first) doll. We noticed, about 20 years ago, that as we sifted through the large wood boxes in which these dolls were imported, that for every 10-15 traditional dolls, one would have the purple shawl doll. Why is this color uncommon? To be quite honest, we don't have an answer. One guess is the color purple, which seldom occurs in nature, was reserved for just a few of the dolls, or perhaps even the painters (usually women). In any case, the purple dolls make an interesting collectible for the completist and are only $1 more.
