Ceremonial Kiss. This is a larger box lovingly painted with a medieval Russian interior scene and depicting a ceremonial kiss. A shadowy figure is visible lurking in the entrance way. All the personages are dressed in rich traditional period costumes. Of special note is the use of mother-of-pearl in the window and in some of the clothing to give an airy opalescence to the scene.

Signed by the artist. Papier-mache, mother-of-pearl inlays, oil paints, metallic powders, lacquer. Footed hinged box with decorative freehand scroll borders. 7 1/2 x 5 x 2 1/2".
