In a Russian Orthodox Christian home, one corner is traditionally reserved for prayer. This corner facing east is called the "Beautiful" or "Holy" corner. An icon is draped with an embroidered cloth and the corner may further be graced with a lampada (vigil lamp) that is kept lit before the icon. Additionally, an analoy (icon stand) nearby can display the Holy Gospel and a cross.
These elegant and beautiful icons have a metal cover termed oklad (covering) or riza (vestment or robe). The metal used is copper which has been silver plated. The metalworking techniques to produce these traditional images include ornamental repoussé and fine chasing.
