"Scarlet Flower" Fedoskino Painting. Igor A. Evmenenko. The Tale of "The Scarlet Flower" (Аленький цветочек) is analogous to the Western fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast." The mythical flower resides only with the Beast, who is an enchanted Prince. Evmenenko is a very important artist of the Fedoskino school. He was born in 1949 in the village of Marfino in the Moscow region. In 1968 he obtained a distinction at the Fedoskino Art School, where he studied under the following masters: V.D. Antonov, V.F. Baranov and S.V. Moshmanov. In 1970 Evmenenko began to produce original "author" works in the traditions of Fedoskino lacquer miniatures. Some of his works are housed in the museum of the Fedoskino workshops: "The Little Humpbacked Horse", "Troika", "Tsar Saltan" and many more. His prefered themes are fairy tales, genre scenes and landscapes. Evmenenko also taught in his own Fedoskino School from 1975 to 1991, and received the prestigious "For the Achievements of the Motherland" award in 1995. He is currently active today and his work commands attention and is highly collectible. Oil painting on papier-mache. Approximately 16½"x6". Materials used are oils paints, papier-mache, metallic powders, and lacquer. Circa 1980.
