19th Century Festive Russian Costume Doll. This stunning 18" porcelain doll has a hand painted lifelike face. The hands and feet are also made of porcelain. She is adorned with an exquisitely detailed period costume made from satin, silk, lace and gold thread embroidery. She is crowned with the quintessential Russian headdress - the triangular pointed kokoshnik (кокошник) out of from which a long gossamer veil emerges. Behind the veil is her long braid, a symbolic indication that she is marriageable. A doll that is attentive to detail - even the feet are adorned with gold trimmed violet felt porcelain boots. In excellent condition.1 only, as shown.
Condition note: at the top of the headdress there is just the slightest bit of wear.
