The 1903 ball in the Winter Palace (Костюмированный бал 1903 года) was an extravagant affair held under Nicholas II at the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg. It was convened over two days (Feb 11 and Feb 13). Everyone wore rich 17th-century style Russian costumes made from designs by Sergey Solomko (1867-1928) in collaboration with historical experts. It was the "last spectacular ball in the history of the empire" - Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovitch. Tsar Nicholas wore the costume of the second Romanov, Alexis I, and the Tsaritsa Alexandra came as hsi wife, Maria Ilyinichna Miloslavskaya. A souvenir album was produced of which this is a miniature book (3" x 4") reproduction.
