Virgin of Kazan (Kazanskaya) with Christ the Teacher. The icon of "Christ the Teacher" is a variant of the Pantocrator image. Christ is bearded, His brown hair centrally parted, and His head is surrounded by a halo. One hand blesses while the other hand holds the New Testament open to the passage from John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." The inscriptions in Slavonic are: "Mother of God", "Most Blessed Holy Mother of God of Kazan", "Jesus Christ" and "He Who Is" around the halo.
