Moscow Mint mark on left ("Московский монетный двор - ММД)"and CCCP. The assay mark and weight on the left "925-1000" and 32 grams. Diameter 1.57 inches (40 mm). Chemist and inventor Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (1834-1907) is best known for formulating the Periodic Table of Elements. The reverse of the medal shows a partial cross-section of the table. He was also given credit for the introduction of the metric system to the Russian Empire.
