Holy Trinity Lacquer Box (Троица Ветхозаветная). The Old Testament Holy Trinity icon was written by Russian's most revered iconographer, Andrei Rublev (1360-1428). Three winged angels appear to Abraham at the site of the ancient oak of Mamre. They are seated and gesture towards a chalice in the center of the table. Abraham's house and the mountainside are in the background. The Holy Trinity is the fundamental theme of Pentecost. Traditional papier-mache lacquer box painted in Russia. Unsigned and undated (as icons should be). Faces are delicately rendered. From the early 1990's. Paper "Made in Russia" label on the back. 2" x 1¾" x 1¼". 1 only. Condition note: some touch-up to top right where it had been dropped, otherwise about fine.
