The Holy Face (Христос Нерукотворный). The liturgical name for this icon is "Christ Acheiropoietos", which means "a divinely wrought portrait, or not handmade". A significant Christian icon, its other names include "Not-made-by-hands", the Holy Mandylion and the Holy Napkin. This image was often painted on silk flags and large banners, which were then carried into battle at the front of Russian armies to protect soldiers from enemies and to inspire them in combat.
Meticulously etched on jewelry-quality brass plates at the Efremov Institute in St. Petersburg by a group of talented artists (R. Alekseev, A. Ikonnikova, I. Kislov and V. Nikitin). Amazing work. Elegantly gift boxed with descriptions. 2"x 1½".
