Kindjal (Кинджал) Letter Opener. A kindjal is a double-edged dagger worn by the Imperial Cossack Guards. This Russian elegant filigree letter opener, in the form of a kindjal, was made by hand, not by a machine. It is an outstanding example of filigree design and craftsmanship as perfected during the days of Catherine the Great. The pattern is reminiscent of bobbin-lace with seed pearl enhancements. 99% pure silver over copper. Hand-crafted in the tiny town of Kazakovo, near Nihzny Novgorod (formerly the city of Gorky). 8½" long.
