Filigree Basket. A superb example of Old World Russian filigree work made by hand and not a machine. This delicate and labor-intensive piece is an excellent example of design and craftsmanship reminiscent of "bobbin-lace" (a textile made by braiding and twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on bobbins). The copper piece is dipped in practically pure (99.9%) silver. Hand crafted in Kazakovo, near Nihzny Novgorod (formerly the city of Gorky). 4 sets of braided twisted ringlets at the base from which arise 12 wing or leaf forms. Within each are 12 sets of three circles (36 in all) each set with a tiny grain (seed) in the center. A braided copper wire forms the handle. In about fine condition bright silver condition with faint traces of silver sulfide in a few spots upon close inspection. A nice gift for the Russian filigree connoisseur or collector. 3" diameter. 5" in height. Only 1 available. Gift boxed.
