Moscow 850 Years. Commemorative Metal Embossed Plate for the 850th Anniversary of Moscow. Moscow, the city with more than 400 churches, celebrated 850 years in 1997. One of the oldest cities in RUssia, it's year of foundation is generally accepted as 1147 when Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy called upon his brother, the Prince of the Novgorod-Severski to "come to me, brother, to Moscow." This is the first record of Moscow in Russian chronicles.
An embossed copper plate with interlocked ring border and the image of St. George, the patron saint of Moscow, slaying the dragon, in the center. Surrounding the image is the Russian word for Moscow and 850 years (Москва и 850 лет).
