Polkhovsky-Maidan (Полховский-Майдан). An older matryoshka from either Polkhovsky Maiden (the central village in the Voznesensk district) or the neighboring village of Krutets (Крутец). As far as style goes, the Polkhovsky "family" of dolls, exhibit original patterning and traditional flowers and leaves enhanced by the characteristic black swirls, or "fingerprints". The faces and drawing are very unassuming and naive to point of childish simplicity. This is due to the lack of streamlined production, as each doll is made singularly and by hand. This set is from the early to mid-1980's and has the red USSR label. 3 nest, 5¼" tall.
Note:first doll has some soil and raised lacquer drops due to method of production, which is reflected in the price.
