Saint Sergius of Radonezh (Сергий Радонежский) (1314-1392) was a monastic reformer of medieval Russia. He founded the monastery of the Holy Trinity (Troitse-Sergiyev Posad). In 1380, before the Battle of Kulikovo against the armies of the Golden Horde under the command of Mamai, he blessed Prince Dmitry Donskoi and foretold his victory. Holy Trinity Monastery is the largest in Russia and is situated near Moscow within the town of Sergiev Posad. Housing some amazing churches and bell towers of the 15th-18th centuries, it is also the residence of the Patriarch, head of the Orthodox Church in Russia. Together with Saint Seraphim of Sarov, Saint Sergius is one of the Russian Orthodox Church's most venerated saints.
