Matryoshka "Counting" Toy (Матрешка "Счетный" Материал). Ten brightly painted miniature Semenov maidens on a pegged board. Made in the Semenov toy factory in the mid to late 1980s. Detailed and fine work. 2¼" in height x 8¾" length. Like new condition. 1 only.
Semenov had a tradition of producing colorful and whimsical toys to instruct developing young minds. This set was made to teach children to count and recognize colors as well as to develop manual dexterity. Hand painted in Semenov, near Moscow. Child-safe materials (though not intended for children under 3 years old).
