Mini "Mashenka" ((Машенька). A miniature version of Russia's most endearing nesting doll. Each successive doll is a smaller and smaller version of the predecessor. Fine details include faces and fingers on every one. Vintage dolls reflect a now vanished era when artists painted for the sake of the art and for each other, and not for the "bottom line". These are not currently produced in Russia or elsewhere (China, anyone)? For those who appreciate an unusual Semenov matryoshka from a bygone era, this little doll fits the bill. By the way, Mashenka (accent on "Ma") is the diminutive form of Mary.
This Semenov doll was made sometime in the 1970's and has the round paper "Made in the USSR" export label on the bottom of the first doll. 5 nest, 2¾" down to ½". Very good condition with a closed production crack. 1 only, as shown.
