Great acclaim is given to St. George, who is well known for slaying the dragon. Within the Orthodox canon, he is given the title of "Trophy Bearer" due to his status as martyr and his spiritual victory over the torturers, who could not force him to renounce Christianity. Likewise he assisted those in danger.
The most significant event attributed to St. George was the slaying the powerful dragon that lived in a lake near Silena, an ancient Greek city in today's Libya. Born in Cappadocia of a Palestinian mother in the late 3rd century, he was a Christian Roman soldier. St. George is the patron saint of Moscow, England, farmers, soldiers, scouting and the earthly analogue of Archangel Michael.
