The Flock Took Flight. A fine example of artistic embroidery by the well-known artist Antonina Dmitrievna Levashova who is from Obninsk - a city in the Kaluga Oblastg and a two-hour train ride from Moscow. Her work, along with her daughter's who has also taken up the art, has been exhibited in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Serphukhov, Kaluga, Vladikavkaz and in the museum in their home town. The unique embroidery was created by needle from superimposed multi-colored silken and woolen threads that they dye themselves and then sew into a backing. The artist has skillfully mastered the art of conveying shadow and light and the variety and richness of the many shades of color gives the paintings a special charm and warmth. The result, graceful and painstaking, is very joyful and mysterious! The canvases of Antonina and Elena Levashov have been purchased by a number of Russian and foreign art foundations, as well as by private individuals.
