Tsar Nicholas II and the Royal Family of Russia (Царь Николай II и Королевская семья России). This is a detailed Russian nesting doll - the work of one artist, who painted each of the portraits of the family of the Last Tsar of Russia. And these are truly high quality portraits, not to be confused with the standard tourist doll sold in the Moscow marketplace today. It begins with a portrait of Nicholas II, The Last Tsar of Russia, and is followed by, what would have been his successor, the Heir to the Throne, Tsarevich Alexis. Nicholas is dressed in a military uniform with epaulettes, kolodka, sash and medals. Alexis is painted wearing the uniform of the Hussar regiment. The rest of the paintings include Tsarevna Alexandra wearing a crown, and all of the Grand Duchesses: Olga, Tatiana, Marie and Anastasia. An elaborate, hand painted double-headed eagle, the crest of the Romanovs, adorns each and every piece.
All details are fully attended to - even the bottom of each doll is painted and sealed. An heirloom and a keepsake. Matte finish, finely polished. Signed by the artist. Circa 2000. 7 nest. 7⅞" down to 2". (19cm down to 5cm).
