Product Description
Vasilisa (Василиса). Galina Petrovna Bogatikova (Morozova) (Галина Петровна Богатикова (Морозова)) was born in 1948 in the town of Lukh in the Ivanovo district. She studied at the Palekh Art College from 1963-1968 and worked in the Palekh Art and Production Workshops for many years before its liquidation in 1989-1991. Beginning in 1976, she participated in exhibitions both domestic and international. Some of her works can be found in the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum.
Vasilisa the Beautiful is a favorite subject for many Palekh artists. In this scene, the artist has painted the evil witch Baba Yaga flying in her mortar and pestle towards her hut deep in the forest. The beautiful Vasilisa grips the magic doll through which counsel has saved her from peril. A classic Russian tale!

Condition note: White or cloudy areas in the photos are "hot spots" caused by studio lights reflecting off the shiny lacquer. The box itself is brand new, and perfect.
