Vintage Grandfather Frost with Burgundy Coat ("Дед Мороз"). This unusual Grandfather Frost appeared in the late 1980s when Gorbachev's reforms began to filter through Russia. Grandfather Frost carries a green gift bag slung over his shoulder and decorated with white snowflakes and stars. He holds a painted and decorated long green staff and his fur-trimmed dark burgundy coat is also covered with stars. Note that the sharp facial features and pose of this carving have a wizard-like, regal aspect. It has not yet been softened into the currently popular Grandfather Frost combined with a western Santa Claus. A nice and unique historical addition to a Russian Christmas collection. 10½" tall. In great shape. (Note: original staff has had a difficult to detect repair to it.) 1 only, as shown.
