Vladimir Putin and His Predecessors Matryoshka. What a line-up! The whole gang is here. A young, apparently newly-elected, Vladimir Putin heads off this set of expertly painted portraits. Each leader is given the one attribute most associated with him. Yeltsin has a Russian tri-color flag tie, Gorbachev (complete with birthmark) the hammer and sickle, Brezhnev wears his medals, Khrushchev in Ukrainian peasant shirt and ear of corn, Stalin in green fatigues and ever present pipe and tiny Lenin, the germ of the set. Dolls with Putin's image painted are more scarce due the fall off in production of political dolls, which began in 1988, and the beginning of decoupage and silk screened dolls that superseded painted ones. Initialed by the artist from Moscow. 7 nest, 6" down to 1". Backs are painted blue. In fine condition, 1 only.
