Includes a catalog of Zinoviev's works and color and black and white reproductions. Nikolai Mikhailovich was born into a family of icon painters in the village of Diaghilevo in the Vyaznikovsky district of the Vladimir province. As a young man, he worked and taught at a vocational school, which transformed in 1934 into the Palekh Art School. From 1944-1956 he was the director of the State Museum of Palekh Art. He was engaged in monumental painting (painting of children's institutions and houses of culture in Anzhero-Sudzhensk (1960), Baku (1961), Ivanovo (1937), Leningrad (1936), Makhachkala (1961), Rybinsk (1938), Shue (1959-1961), Yaroslavl (1939), church restorations (frescoes of the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin (1947), Trinity Cathedral in Zagorsk, Lacquer Cabinet of the Monplaisir Palace in Petrodvorets (1955-1959)); costumes for theatrical performances; illustrations for books ("Peasant Children" by N. A. Nekrasov (1936), fairy tales by S. A. Basov-Verkhoyantsev (1946)), and easel painting.
