Among the correspondents are Alexandra's grandmother, Queen Victoria of England, and Nicholas' cousin, Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. The authors, one a historian, the other the Director of the Russian State Archives, draw heavily on the private correspondence of the Tsar and Tsarina to create an intimate account of their lives.
