The Church of St. John the Theologian ((церковь Иоанна Богослова на Ишне), built in 1687, is situated within a few miles of Great Rostov on the Ishnya River. It is a filial church of the Avraamiev Pokrovsky Gorodetsky Monastery (Авраамиев Покровский Городецкий монастырь), built to mark the site where, in the 11th century, the monastery's founder, Venerable Monk Abraham of Galich, a disciple of Saint Sergius of Radonezh, had met St. John the Theologian. The church is an octagon with porches crowned by distinctive bochka roofs and a steepled bell tower set in front of the main building. It is the oldest wooden building in Yaroslavl Oblast.
