Product Description
Frederick Carleton Chamberlin. Elizabeth And Leycester. Fascinating early 20th century biography of Elizabeth I (1533-1603) and her childhood friend, Robert Dudley (1532-1588), Earl of Leicester (aka Leycester). Chamberlin sweepingly documents "the private character of Elizabeth Tudor, Queen of Scots" through extensive appendices, as well as throughout the dramatic text. Dudley courted Elizabeth for 10 years, and, in the end, they never married. She did raise Dudley to the peerage of Earl. He'd descended from an ancient family, though his father was a mere knight. Interestingly, it was Dudley's father, John Dudley (Duke of Northumberland), who had failed in establishing his wife, Lady Jane Grey (1537-1554), on the English throne.
