The Firebird (Жар-птица) is a magical bird with a brightly glowing feathers that can illuminate a dark room. She prefers sweet golden apples. Her ancestry is akin to the Phoenix, who slumbers during the day and then awakens at sunset. The Firebird makes appearances in many Russian fairy tales, including Ivan Tsarevich and the Grey Wolf, and The Little Humpbacked Horse.
