Medieval Bogatyr (Средневековый богатырь). This fellow stands at attention with his sword raised. He wears a chain mail tunic and holds an elaborate hexagonal sword painted with a bright sun on a red background, capped by a silver helmet. A lot of detail went into making this hand painted and carved ornament. From Sergiev-Posad, Russia. Signed by the artist and dated 1993. 4¾ in height. Excellent condition. 1 only, as shown.

Bogatyrs are legendary, and perhaps fictional, warriors based on historical figures from the era of Kievan Rus. They were cast in impossibly heroic roles in folk tales and bylinas (былины), which are epic narrative poems.
