Product Description

This porcelain sculpture is 7½"x5", was hand painted at the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory and marked with the factory backstamp. Two talented artists collaborated to produce a great many of the so-called "Porcelain Zoo" animal sculptures: porcelain painter Viktor Zhbanov and sculptor/modeler Pavel Veselov. The fruit of their cooperation produced unique figures that are distinctive and naturally posed.
The Lomonosov Porcelain Factory (Ломоносовский фарфоровый завод) has had a long history, starting with its name. When founded in 1744, it was the Imperial Porcelain Factory (Императорский фарфоровый завод). In 1925, it was renamed after the scientist and polymath Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov (1711-1765). It kept this name until 2005, when finally it came full circle and was renamed back to Imperial Porcelain Factory (or Manufactory), or IPM, for short.
