Product Description
Painted Wood Egg "Spring". Arkady Alexandrovich Plastov (Аркадий Александрович Пластов) (1893-1972) was a Russian socialist realist painter. He descended from painters of icons in the village of Prislonikha, Simbirsk. This egg is a copy of one of his paintings from 1954, titled Spring. It shows a girl kneeling in front of a banya (sauna) and dressing a young child. The painting marked a shift in the state mandated style of socialist realism by showing a slice of life in the Soviet Union, without any political message. The original painting is in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
Acrylics on a wood egg, 4" in height. Painted on a black background, matte finish. Light wear to white border around painting, otherwise about fine. From Moscow, circa 1993. 1 only.
