Product Description
St. Isaac's Cathedral (Исааакиевский собор). An unusual plate offering from the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg, complete with post-2002 blue ЛФЗ backstamp (which was used on production from 2002-2005) and "Hand Decorated 1744 St. Petersburg Russia"" with an additional 1С, which stands for 1st quality. Ironically, there is nothing hand painted about this plate whatsoever, and, due to the sepia monotone, it probably was a poor seller. In any case, it makes for an unusual collector's plate from Russia, and Lomonosov, in particular. No paperwork, no box, no cert. Made in Russia. 7¾" diameter.
St. Isaac's Cathedral is a non-functioning church (it's a museum) which was dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great. It was originally built as a cathedral but was turned into a museum by the Soviet government in 1931 and has remained a museum ever since, with church services held in a side chapel since the 1990s.
