Sobstvenny Teapot. This teapot is based on the med-18th century porcelain design called Собственный (i.e, Personal) that was created by Dmitry Vinogradov for Empress Elizaveta, who reigned from 1741 to 1762. If it looks familiar, it is, as the highly popular cobalt net design from Lomonosov (today Imperial) porcelain was influenced by it. Elizaveta, or Elizabeth, was the daughter of Peter the Great, who wanted her to establish a genuine porcelain factory in St. Petersburg, which, at the time, was the capital of Russia. Originally named the Imperial Porcelain Factory and established in 1744, it was the aforementioned talented Russian scientist Vinogradov, who worked out the technology to create the first Russian porcelain.
The shape is not a common one. The porcelain is milk-white. The hand painting and detailing is exquisite with gold accents throughout. The handle and spout have elegant drop finials, and gold banding. The lid is fully painted as is the top of the teapot. The mark is the blue "Hand Decorated ЛФЗ 1744 St. Petersburg Russia" one and 1С indicates 1st Quality. 7¼" in length and 6¼" in height. The condition is like new, never used. 1 only.
