Product Description
Tryst (Свидание). It's harvest time and this young village couple is secretly making time to see one other. Above them is a delicate panorama of village huts. A unique dynamic and elegant miniature (approximately 1¾"x1") box is painted in the style of early 20th century Palekh artists.
Papier-mache, egg tempera paints, lacquer. Detailed decorative freehand scroll border in gold. Signed by the artist in gold. Painted in 1990 or 1991. 1 only, as shown.
Nadezhda Yurievna Ladokhina (Shabalina) (Надежда Юрьевна Ладохина (Шабалина)) was born in 1960 in the town of Shuya, Ivanovsky oblast (district). She studied at the Palekh Art College from 1976-1981 and worked in the Palekh Art and Production Workshops for ten years before its liquidation in 1989-1991. As of about ten years ago, she apparently still lived and worked in Shuya.
Note: White, cloudy areas in the photos are "hot spots" caused by studio lights reflected from off the shiny lacquer. The box is fine.
