The Kalinin Matryoshka (Калининская Матрешка) came from the city of Kalinin, situated on the Upper Volga River. After 1991, many cities were restored to their pre-Soviet names. Thus, Kalinin became Tver, its historical name. This matryoshka was actually made in the late 1980's, but imported to the United States in 1992. Thus they span across two distinctly different political systems!
