Chilandar (sometimes Hilandar) Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in the pan-orthodox multinational community on Mount Athos, Greece. It was founded in 1198 by Stefan Nemanja and his son Saint Sava. As a vital spiritual and cultural center for Serbs, it holds numerous relics, including the Mother of God (aka "The Lady of Three Hands"). It is considered the foundation of Serbian identity and a repository of significant medieval Serbian art. Unfortunately, in 2004, a fire destroyed almost 50% of the monastery complex.
