Holy Trinity (Святая Троица). The image of the Holy Trinity shown here was originally written by Russia's most celebrated iconographer, Andrei Rublev (1360-1428). It was commissioned to honor Saint Sergius of Radonezh of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius monastery, near Moscow, in the town of Sergiev Posad. The Holy Trinity is the fundamental theme of Pentecost and is the most famous of all Russian icons.
The Old Testament Trinity (Троица Ветхозаветная) depicts three winged angels who appear to Abraham. The icon is also known as Abraham's Hospitality.They are seated and gesture towards the chalice in the center of the table. His house, the ancient oak of Mamre, and Mount Moriah are in the background. The blue of the Holy Spirit's robe symbolizes divinity, while the green symbolizes new life.
A lovely miniature (3¼" x 5½") icon that was fully hand painted in Russia. Matte finish with slightly raised relief. 1 only.
