In 1934, the Society for Aid to Children of Russian Emigration in San Francisco began publishing an annual magazine, “Day of the Russian Child.” The chairman of the editorial board was Nikolai Viktorovich Borzov (1869-1955), who was a prominent figure in Russian education and émigré charitable and cultural work. He was born in Glazov, (a town west of Yekaterinburg), and educated St. Petersburg and Tomsk. He moved to Harbin in 1905, where was a school director, and then to Berkeley (CA) in 1925. There he founded Russian kindergartens and high schools in Berkeley and San Francisco. He edited the well-respected journal "Day of the Russian Child" which was established to raise funds and awareness of the plight of Russian children abroad.
