Product Description
Golden Filigree Box. This elegant box was made entirely by hand, and not by a machine. It is a fine example of design and craftsmanship that was perfected in the days of Empress Catherine the Great (1762-1796). The pattern is reminiscent of bobbin-lace, and the artisans who created this style named it "Dew Drop" (in Russian, "Росинка"). It is hand decorated with tiny round pellets called "seed pearls" ("семенные жемчужины") and capped with a hand made rosette on the lid. Made the village of Kazakovo, near Nihzny Novgorod, a center of fine filigree work for decades. The box comes in it's original, Soviet-style box. 3"x2"x1¼".
