Icon of The Mother of God of Vladimir (Богоматерь Владимирская). This is a very well-known Russian Orthodox icon of the Eleusa type, known as "Tenderness" in Greek (and Umileniye - "Умиление" - in Russian). The relationship between Mother and Child is expressed with a great emphasis. Christ touches his Mother's face with one hand and presses His cheek against Hers. Her sorrowful gaze foresees His Passion and She affectionately embraces Him.
Meticulously etched on jewelry-quality brass plates at the Efremov Institute in St. Petersburg by a group of talented artists (R. Alekseev, A. Ikonnikova, I. Kislov and V. Nikitin). Amazing work. Elegantly gift boxed with descriptions. 2"x 1½".
