Product Description
Old World Portable Desktop Box. The Victorian age produced more writing desks than any other age. As the middle class rose in literacy, the writing desk — also called a writing box, lap desk, dispatch box, portable desk, or traveling writing desk - became affordable. Our Old World Desktop Box has a finely detailed Russian Double Headed Eagle, cast from a 19th century original, and finished with 14kt gold. Two crossed axes represent The Corps of Engineers (Инженерные войска). The box is entirely hand made from two pieces of hardwood that form a bevel on top. Brass accents are hand cut and inlaid along the perimeter and brass dovetailing holds it all together. Each box is slightly different. What may be interpreted as imperfections in workmanship actually indicate their hand made nature and add to the distressed character of the "old world" box. 8" x 6" x 3".
This item is well suited for the Impoverished Russian Aristocrat Room Abroad (IRAA)
