Painted Wood Egg "Wellspring". Arkady Alexandrovich Plastov (Аркадий Александрович Пластов) (1893-1972) was a Russian socialist realist painter. He descended from painters of icons in the village of Prislonikha, Simbirsk. This egg is a copy of one of his paintings from 1952, titled Wellspring (Родник). It is a pastoral depiction of a village girl in a light summer chintz dress and head scarf collecting water from a wellspring in the village of Prislonikha, where Arkady Alexandrovich was born. This spring has been preserved, and is called Plastovsky.
Acrylics on a wood egg, 4" in height. Painted on a black background, matte finish. Light wear to white border around painting, one tiny blemish on the back, otherwise about fine. From Moscow, circa 1993. 1 only.
