Product Description
Russian Matryoshka. By Larissa Soloviova (author), Marina Marder (sponsor). It's not easy to find a lot of decent information on Russian nesting dolls, particularly in book form. This volume does a nice job of balancing historical information on the regional production centers (Sergiev Posad, Nizhni Novgorod, Semenov, Polkhovsky Maidan and Vyatka plus some regional workshops) and the "author's matryoshka" phenomenon that had begun to be produced. The photos are full color, and the text is informative. Note: Marder was an importer and wholesaler of Russian arts and crafts. Her company was headquartered in Wheeling, IL, and no longer exists.
Russia (Moscow): Interbook, 1993. 63 pages. In English. Hardcover, pictorial covers. About fine, with minor scuffs, no ownership marks. 1 copy only.
