Product Description
St. Elizabeth, New Martyr (Святая Елизавета, Новомученица). Born a Grand Duchess, Hessen princess and granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Elizaveta Feodorovna married Grand Duke Sergei of Russia in 1884. When her husband was assassinated by revolutionaries in 1905 she grieved, but grew concerned for the spiritual welfare of the man who committed the act, visiting him in prison, forgiving him, and asking him to repent for the sake of his soul.
Saint Elizabeth dedicated her life to God by becoming a nun, later founding a convent and hospital. After the Bolshevik revolution, she was removed from her convent and imprisoned. She was martyred together with other members of the Russian nobility, and was buried in Gethsemane at Saint Mary Magdalene’s Convent near Jerusalem.
