John the Evangelist, or Theologian, (6 AD–100 AD) is the name traditionally given to the author of the Gospel of John. He is a revered figure in the Orthodox Christian faith, and one of the original Twelve Apostles. Celebrated for his profound theological writings (Gospel, Epistles, Revelation) and his deep love for Christ, he is often depicted with an eagle symbolizing his lofty insights. He is the patron saint of authors.
