This icon depicts The Great Martyr St. George and the Dragon (also known as the Trophy Bearer or Victory Bearer). He was a Christian Roman soldier, born in the late 3rd century in Cappadocia to a Palestinian mother. St. George is often depicted riding a white horse while slaying a dragon, a familiar symbol of Satan. A blessing hand of Jesus Christ emerges from a segment of a circle at the top right-hand corner of the icon. St. George is a symbol of the earthly manifestation of Archangel Saint Michael, with whom he has much in common. St. George is the patron saint of Moscow, England, farmers, soldiers, prisoners and the poor, and scouting. This icon is painted in the style of the early 15th century Novgorod School. Painted in Russia. Approximately 6"x8". 1 only
