Product Description
The Theotokos Ognevidnaya (Огневидная, or "Fire-Like"), first mentioned in historical documents in 1812 and added to the church calendar soon after, became widespread throughout the Russian Church. Its name derives from the fiery red hues of the Mother of God's face and garments. Another attribute for this image is that the Mother of God is turned to the left, thus representing a mirror image of the Byzantine original.
Inscriptions include: The Image of the Holy Mother of God, (Образ Преподобной Богородицы), Mother of God (to the left and right of Her halo, and "Fire-Like" (Огневидная). A beautifully rendered icon of this unusual image.
