    • Large and heavy pre-revolutionary brass samovar.  1890-1910. Tula, Russia. In about fine condition, no major dents or missing parts. The golden brass is warm quality and has been cleaned often by the former owner. About 19¾" in height and weighs slightly over 13½ lbs. The inside chamber has calcium and mineral deposits indicative of prior use. The burn chamber plate, essentially a grill, is intact and clips on. All parts, including key, grips, cap, etc., appear to be original.e factory award medals and identification has been polished nearly out of existence, but a closer look reveals the word "Ivan" and "Batashev". The era is 1890-1910. Ivan Grigoryevich Batashev is one of the most famous and well-known samovar makers in Tula

    • Zagorsk (Загорск) Maidens were made in the 1970s through the late 1980s in "Zagorsk Toy Factory No. 1". This attractive 9 nest is in well-reserved, about fine condition and isn't suffering from the all-too-common flaking and chipping that plagues this style of doll. The state of preservation on this set is remarkable. Colors are bright, the lacquer is clear and all pieces fit together well. Handmade and painted. 7" down to ¾" down.

    • Medieval Bodyguard Rynda (Ринда) was a squire standard-bearer and a loyal personal bodyguard of the Grand Dukes of Moscow and Tsars of the 14th-17th centuries. Only the most handsome young men were chosen for the honor. They were present behind the Tsar or Grand Duke, and accompanied them during public appearances. In the palace hierarchy, the rynda ranked behind boyars, couriers (okolnichy), nobles and Duma clerks. Although impressive, the rynda's function was ceremonial and not as skilled warriors. The position was abolished by Peter I (Great) at the onset of the 18th century. A rynda's costume and clothing included, in this gentleman's case, a coral ermine fur coat embroidered with silver, sashes with gold and silk multi-color strips and a fur gorlatnaya hat and red morocco boots. Our fellow also carries a majestic poleaxe (секира).

    • Vintage Stacker Toy. This vintage girl stacker toy resembles many cultures. It might be Salvo (Estonian) arts and crafts factory work, or perhaps it's Danish, or even Czech work. Even Poland can't be ruled out! This is the beauty of folk art! Since the stacker is unidentified, it can be one of the above, or even none of the above. In any case, it's very interesting. The red and yellow collar work that look like tulips might hold a clue in all this. Approximately 9" in height and 4" base diameter.
