19th century Old Believer Feast Icon (Старообрядческая медная икона XIX века). Northern Russia, mid to late 19th century. It is cast from one fold of four illustrating the 12 principal feasts of the Orthodox Church (the fourth fold, not shown, was of the Adoration of various icons of the Mother of God. At the top of this icon is a composition of The Crucifixion. The smaller icons are of The Annunciation, The Nativity, The Transfiguration Nativity of the Virgin, and The Presentation of the Virgin to the Temple. Each icon is titled in Church Slavonic with the topmost title: "Нерукотворенный Образъ" (Icon Not Made By Hands), which refers to the small icon of Christ at the very top. The back of the icon is blank. Heavy brass casting. 6½" (15.2cm) x 3⅞" (9.8cm). 13.6oz (386gr). 1 only. Excellent condition. Guaranteed vintage.
